Be Intentional About Your Living Spaces

This month, we focus on your living spaces under our theme BE Intentional. Giving each space a clear purpose can boost your quality of life. We understand this concept because we live in a 780 Sq Ft house with no basement.

This fact surprises a lot of people since we sell homes for a living. We were willing to attempt to squeeze into this house so we could live on the water. We really wanted less to maintain so we had more time to enjoy the beauty lakeside living provides.

So how do you create living spaces with intention? We’ve got to be very intentional in our home because every square foot matters. You may have more space than we do, but the concepts are the same.

Here are a few ways to do it:

  1. Purposeful Design: Each element in your living space should serve a purpose or bring you joy. Surround yourself with items that reflect your personality, interests, and experiences. Make your space feel unique, not big box store decorated. Do you like to entertain? Consider how you can set up spaces for guests.
  2. Declutter: Keep only what you need and love. At least once a year go through your belongings and donate, sell, or discard items that no longer serve you.
  3. Create zones: Create areas for reading, working, and relaxing. The photos above are of our outdoor family/dining room and a summertime office. Even in our tiny house, we’ve got areas for different activities.
  4. Lighting: We love natural light pouring into our home. Use window coverings that allow light in. Place mirrors to reflect it in the daylight. Being intentional about evening lighting to fit your needs is also important. Do you want bright overhead lights, or minimal lighting coming from well-placed lamps?
  5. Maintain Order: Develop routines for cleaning and organizing to keep your living spaces tidy and functional. This can help reduce stress and create a sense of calm.

By being intentional about your living spaces, you can create environments that nurture and inspire you, fostering a greater sense of well-being and satisfaction in your daily life.
