Time management is crucial for stress reduction.  There is a lot of principles/systems, apps and ideas on how to manage your time.  We are going to give you a very basic overview along with thoughts on how your current home might affect your time management.

Time Management Principles

  • Prioritization: Identify tasks by importance and urgency. Use techniques like the Eisenhower Matrix to categorize tasks into urgent, important, not urgent, and not important.
  • Time Blocking: Allocate specific time slots for different tasks or activities. This helps in maintaining focus and minimizing multitasking.
  • Pomodoro Technique: Work in short, focused intervals (e.g., 25 minutes) followed by a short break. This can enhance concentration and prevent burnout.
  • Delegation: Assign tasks to others when possible. It frees up time for more critical activities and leverages team strengths.

Phone Features and Apps for Time Management

  • Calendars: Use your phone’s calendar app to schedule appointments, set reminders, and block out time for focused work. Google Calendar and Apple Calendar are popular options.
  • Task Managers: Apps like Todoist, Microsoft To Do, or Any.do can help you organize tasks, set deadlines, and track progress.
  • Time Tracking: Tools like Toggl or Clockify can help you monitor how much time you spend on different activities, helping you identify areas for improvement.
  • Focus Apps: Apps like Focus@Will, Brain.fm, or even the built-in Focus mode on your phone can help you minimize distractions and stay on task.
  • Note-taking: Use apps like Evernote, Notion, or OneNote to jot down ideas, track progress, and manage information.
  • Habit Trackers: Apps like Habitica or Streaks can help you build and maintain good habits by tracking your progress and setting goals.
  • Reminders and Alarms: Set reminders for deadlines, appointments, or breaks to keep you on track and ensure nothing is overlooked.

Time to Make a Move?

Making a move may help with your time management. Assess your current situation. Consider how much time you spend managing your current home. Reflect on your family’s needs. Are you outgrowing your space? Do you need dedicated areas for activities,

  • Downsizing: Would you save time if you had a smaller home?  Less space often means less cleaning and maintenance, which can free up TIME, giving you more TIME for hobbies, family, travel, or relaxation. It also encourages decluttering, which can lead to a more organized and stress-free environment.
  • Condo Living:  Consider saving TIME by moving into a condo.  NO more lawn mowing, snow shoveling or exterior maintenance.
  • Upsizing:  If you have outgrown your current home, moving into a larger home may save you TIME by being a better fit for your family.  Having a place for everything and everything in its place can save you TIME daily!  More space can allow for designated areas for different activities, which might help in keeping things organized and reducing clutter.

Everyone gets the same number of hours in a day, make the best use of yours!  Look this month on our social media for information about why spending TIME with family is important.
