It’s an easy-to-follow recipe that yields incredible, satisfying results every time.
Ingredients:
- 1 lb beef, cut into servable pieces
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup white vinegar
- 3 cloves garlic, smashed
- 2 bay leaves
- 1/2 teaspoon whole peppercorns
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- Salt to taste
- 1/4 cup cooking oil
- 3 tablespoons banana ketchup (optional)
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch diluted in 1/4 cup water (optional)
Directions:
- In a large bowl, combine the beef, soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, bay leaves, peppercorns, and sugar. Marinate for at least 30 minutes.
- Heat oil in a large pot over medium heat.
- Add the marinated beef and cook until lightly browned.
- Add the marinade and enough water to cover the beef. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat, cover, and simmer for 1 to 1.5 hours, or until the beef is tender.
- Add more water, if needed, to prevent the sauce from drying out.
- Once the beef is cooked, add the banana ketchup and stir in the diluted cornstarch to thicken the sauce.
- Season with salt, to taste. Simmer for a few minutes more.
- Garnish with chopped fresh parsley and serve hot with steamed rice.
