In every change, in every falling leaf, there is some pain, some beauty. And that’s the way new leaves grow

Amit Ray

Happy September,

We’d do anything for our families and loved ones — and planning ahead is one of the best ways to protect them. When we create a will or an estate plan, we are taking an important step toward ensuring that their future needs will be secure. This is especially important if there are younger children or loved ones who depend on us.

We know this can be an emotional issue that many of us would rather not dwell on. But having a plan in place provides clarity for your family and peace of mind for you. It’s one of the most meaningful gifts any of us can leave behind.

Here in Wisconsin, planning is even more critical because Wisconsin is not a next-of-kin state. That means if you become unable to state your own medical care wishes, your next of kin is not legally allowed to speak for you unless you have a Power of Attorney for Health Care in place. Without this document, families may face unnecessary legal and emotional challenges in an already difficult time.

To make it easier, we have a list of resources to help you create a basic Power of Attorney for Health Care, along with referrals to attorneys we know and trust for more complex situations. Call or text us if you would like the list of names and/or resources.

This month, we’re also sharing a simple checklist to help you get started.

P.S. — Later this month, we’ll be sharing a new blog post as part of our “Embracing Change” series. September’s focus is on how technology is reshaping our lives — and how we can use it to make things simpler, not harder. Stay tuned!

Sincerely,
Wade and Annette Hetrick
